Richard is part of the local leadership team at Springwood High School but he also has a trust role as the Secondary Science Lead.

Richard has worked at Springwood for 11 years and has always felt supported with his career development and that the Trust has extended the opportunities available to him. 

Richard had a late career changer into teaching when he started at Springwood to complete the graduate teacher programme to train as a Science teacher. His early career was spent teaching Science at Springwood including A Level Chemistry & Physics before becoming Science lead at the school. The outcomes for Science at Springwood improved significantly under his leadership and the number of students moving on to take A Level Science increased too. This was part of his journey towards becoming Trust Science lead.

Results days are the best part of Richard’s job, especially A-Level when he sees so much hard work, by staff and students, come to fruition. His advice is “collaborate and work with others” as he feels he has learnt more from his colleagues than anyone else.

Richard’s biggest achievement is introducing a new, knowledge rich Science curriculum across the Trust.
