Robin Norman

Director of Music for Springwood High School & West Norfolk Academies Trust

Robin is the Director of Music at Springwood High School and WNAT, supporting the delivery of Music opportunities across all our eleven schools.

Robin attended Springwood High School & Sixth Form between 1984 – 1991 and that is where he first got involved in Music. After completing A-Levels, he studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire, one of the top specialist music colleges in the country, and after graduating he worked as a freelance professional musician performing in all the major concert halls in the UK, as well as around the world, before taking a position in the Music Industry. After 8 years in the industry, Robin retrained as a secondary music teacher, taking positions at St Clement’s for 2 years and then as Head of Music and Performing Arts at Ken Stimpson Community School in Peterborough. However, the draw ‘back home’ was too much when the Director of Music position became available in September 2021.

Robin said “the Trust is a very supportive organisation with some clear plans for the young people of West Norfolk, and really appreciates the ‘whole child’, not just their academic studies”.

The best part of his role is working day in, day out, with some fantastic young people in a highly supportive and musical location. His one piece of advice to anybody joining the Trust would be to “be yourself. The students here respond to genuine passion for your subject, so don’t be afraid to show it”.

One of Robins' biggest achievements was being shortlisted as the ‘Outstanding School Music Department of the Year’ at the National Music & Drama Education Awards 2023, one of just seven in the whole of the UK.
